Miss Ellen Franks

Miss Franks is Head of Netball and Head of Girls’ Athletics at Hurst. She has worked at Hurst since 2010.

Miss Franks has coached at a number of Netball clubs in Sussex and plays netball for Sussex Thunder in the National Premier League.

“I have enjoyed every minute of coaching the netball teams at Hurst – our greatest achievement is having matches for every girl who wishes to play netball and seeing over 300 girls in fixtures on a Saturday.”

Our experienced coaches have a wealth of Netball knowledge and are either currently playing, or have previously played, to National League level.

All qualified coaches also have officiating certificates and coach across all the age groups and teams.

Hurst students benefit from our tailored Strength and Conditioning programmes which are provided by our on-site Strength and Conditioning Coaches.

Player Welfare

All students have access to our Player Welfare team. Their support includes pitch-side first aid, clinical injury assessment, physiotherapy and rehabilitation from sports injuries.

Training

Netball at Hurst Sixth Form takes place in both the Michaelmas (autumn) and Lent Terms. In the Lent Term, Netball is the main sport for girls.

Hurst runs a large number of teams across all age groups and caters for all abilities.

We also offering one-to-one and group sessions for our performance squads. Part of the Hurst Netball training programme includes supervised Strength and Conditioning in the Hurst gym.

Tournaments and Fixtures

Hurst Netball teams have full, extensive fixture cards. All teams have fixtures on a Saturday in addition to mid-week games. Our block fixtures are against some of the strongest netball schools in the South of England and our A teams will travel to play some of the top teams across the country.

Independent Schools Netball Competition (Independent Schools Association) (1st VII)
Independent Schools League (Independent Schools Association) (1st VII team)
Sussex Independent Schools Netball Association (SISNA) Tournament – hosted at Hurst (1st VII, 2nd VII, U16A, U16B)
England Netball Sussex County Cup (2nd VII, U16B)

Netball Facilities at Hurst

Hurst has 10 Netball courts, which includes one indoor court.

Achievements

Netball achievements from our Sixth Form (U19) Netball players include the following.

2018 – U19 5th place at National Finals
2020 – U19 qualified for National Finals but could not attend due to the COVID-19 pandemic
2022 – U19 11th place at National Finals
2023 –U19 5th place at National Finals
2025 – U19 4th place at National Finals
