Director of Sport
Mr Rob Kift (BEd)
Mr Kift is Hurst’s Director of Sport, President of the Hurst Common Room and the Sussex Schools Representative for the Rugby Football Union (RFU). He joined the College as Assistant Director of Sport in 1990 and took over as Director of Sport in 1994. He has also been Master-in-charge of Rugby, Master-in-charge of Swimming, the first Head of PE and a Housemaster of Chevron for five years.
Mr Kift has a Bachelor of Education from Madeley College of Education (now part of Staffordshire University).
He is passionate about all sports, but Rugby is his first love, followed by Football, Athletics, Tennis and Swimming (and when he was younger, surfing!). Having been born and raised in Devon he is an avid Exeter Chiefs rugby fan as well as a follower of Manchester United F.C.

Assistant Director of Sport (Girls)
Ms Rebecca (Bex) Jutson
Mrs Jutson has coached Hurst’s 1st VII Netball team for 12 years. She joined Hurst in 2005 as a Netball Coach and went on to became Head of Netball in 2008, Assistant Head of Girls’ Games in 2015 and then Assistant Director of Sport (Girls) from 2018. She is also a member of Phoenix House as a Shell/ Remove Tutor.
She has always loved sport, with Hockey and Netball as her favourite sports. She represented Sussex in both Netball and Hockey from an early age. Having to choose one sport to pursue, she opted for Netball and enjoyed 10 years playing with the South Region and National Premier League for Sussex Thunder. She balanced her playing career around her career at Hurst and Mum to two girls.
Mrs Jutson went on to coach at Sussex Netball Club for 13 years and now coaches on the pathway for Surrey Storm.

Assistant Director of Sport (Boys)
Mr Steve May (BSc Chichester)
Mr May is Assistant Director of Sport (Boys), Head of PE and Sports Science, and Master-in-charge of Athletics. He is a level 2 Rugby Coach and a level 2 Athletics Coach.
Mr May has taken part in rugby, cricket, football, swimming and athletics from an early age. Rugby became his predominant sport and his achievements include captaining the Sussex Rugby team, playing for New Zealand’s South Canterbury U21 team, London Division U20 and National 2 with Worthing Raiders.
