Hurst win Tier 2 National Plate Final!

On 5 March the Girls 1st XI hockey team played in the Tier 2 National Plate Final at Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre after a brilliant competition consisting of 7 games and 30 goals leading up to the finals.

This year’s 1st XI is young, with two 14-year-olds and two 15-year-olds in the U18 squad, but nevertheless, the team was excelling in every game they played throughout the competition and final. Well done to Anna D, Ella L and Tayla H who were the top goal scorers of the tournament.

The girls started the final extremely well and were up 2-0 after 20 minutes. During the first half the team was confident and moved the ball well, carrying hard with purpose and skill. However, the second half was more challenging as Wells played extremely well to try and take the win. The girls did not crack and defended for their lives. Elsie, our goalkeeper, was called upon to make numerous saves including a penalty.

The girls gave it their all and kept their nerves at bay in the second half, winning the game 3-1 against Wells and taking the Tier 2 National Plate! This is the first girls win in a hockey final for many years, and the team are optimistic that they will grow and develop further.
