Hockey

Training

Hockey is a main sport for all pupils, with girls playing in the Michaelmas term and boys in the Lent term. Indoor hockey, which is popular with all pupils, is played during the Michaelmas term.

With many teams across all age groups there is a team for all abilities. Training takes place three times a week during games sessions and, in addition, specialised small group and focused one-to-one coaching sessions are offered for elite players. The extensive pre-season training programme includes both indoor and outdoor sessions.

Hurst hosts all the Sussex Hockey at Hurst on a Sunday and host the England Hockey, East Grinstead Talent Academy every Monday.

Fixtures and tournaments

Matches are played every Saturday, with some fixtures and competitions taking place during the week.

In the Michaelmas term our students take part in individual matches with local schools and compete in the National Schools Indoor Championships at U16 and U18 level.

We take part in a wide variety of competitions across all age groups, from the England Hockey National Schools Championships to the Independent Schools Knockout Cup. Our students also play in county competitions, although these are currently being phased out in favour of more national events.

Facilities

Hurst offers three sand-dressed, floodlit AstroTurf pitches which are all in superb condition. They provide an excellent playing surface for all training and matches.

Hurst's has one of the strongest hockey programmes in the South of England. Mr Sorrell, Head of Hockey
