School Stories Awards 2021 - Best School Spirit Story - Hurstpierpoint College

Our entry for the Best School Spirit Story Award 2021

The main aim of the College during the challenge of the pandemic has been to encourage and support pupils to stay active, engaged and connected to the Hurst Community. The College’s Sports department fully embraced this aim by introducing a whole host of imaginative and inventive ideas to not only engage pupils, but also staff, parents and siblings.

Alongside an extensive games programme when on-site and timetabled lessons during remote learning, the Sports department created an amazing array of initiatives and challenges for students, staff and their families. Not only were these events designed to help members of the Hurst community to stay active, engaged and connected, but the physical activities also helped with taking time away from computer screens, and the opportunity to spend quality time with family members in the fresh air.

Despite the restrictions of pandemic life, members of the Hurst Community were engaged and connected online through regular event updates on the @HurstSport and individual Sports Twitter accounts, as well as being invited to log on to virtual quizzes and interviews with sports personalities.

The creation and response to these initiatives has been excellent, demonstrating Hurst spirit at its absolute best.
