MUN Haileybury - Hurstpierpoint College

MUN Haileybury

The Lower Sixth Model United Nations team set off on Friday for the conference and arrived at Haileybury just in time for the opening ceremony. The conference opened with an insightful speech by Simon Boyden, the British High Commissioner to Eswatini, and a welcome to all delegates.

The students then headed to their committees which ranged from Security Council to Ecology and Environment, where they spent a further day and a half debating a wide range of issues. The issues debated include the question of the establishment of a region of peace in the Black Sea, drug trafficking, the choice for women to wear a hijab, and the question of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The students all enjoyed their extensive and passionate debates on the issues in committee before moving to the general assembly to discuss the chosen resolutions from the entire conference. After impressive speeches made by the whole cohort, Poppy M and Oliver M won prizes as distinguished and highly commended delegates which rounded off the informative and exciting weekend that all students have taken a lot away from.
