Junior Prep Harvest Festival - Hurstpierpoint College

Junior Prep Harvest Festival

The first week of October traditionally sees the College’s Harvest services, which offer an opportunity to give thanks for the gifts of the harvest. It is also the first occasion in the year when the Junior Prep School invites parents and friends to join them for a service, and for many pupils it’s the first time that they can share their singing.

The service started with pupils bringing in a selection of the goods collected for the Burgess Hill Foodbank; a way in which we can support our local community. After the presentation of these gifts, pupils in Reception, Year 1, and Year 2 sang ‘Big, Red Combine Harvester’, which was very well received.

The Junior Choir followed, in which all pupils in Year 3 and Year 4 participated, singing ‘Thank you for (almost) everything’. The theme of thankfulness was continued in the reading and the prayers that were written and read by pupils in Year 6.

To end the service–the Chapel choir, consisting of pupils in Year 5 and Year 6–sang the anthem ‘Look at the World’ by John Rutter. The Harvest services are always a fantastic reminder to give thanks for food.

Thank you to all who joined the service, as well as to the pupils and staff for all their hard work in preparing them. Janneke Blokland, Chaplain
