House Welcome Events

The social calendar was full for our boarding and day houses at the beginning of Michaelmas Term! Various social events took place across the campus on Friday nights, and provided a great opportunity for new pupils to socialise with the fellow house members, for old pupils to meet up again after the long summer holidays, and for parents to mingle with each other and with staff members too.

For the boys’ houses, some highlights include Woodard’s paella and crazy-golf evening, Chevron’s BBQ, Crescent’s hog roast, and the Red Cross BBQ hosted at the cricket pavilion, where much fun was had with garden games. Highlights for the girls’ houses included paella for Pelican, pizza and arancini for Martlet, and a hog roast for Shield in the Inner Quad.

It was a lovely evening - parents mingled in the autumn light, the lads tucked into some cracking sizzling chicken wings and putted to the heart’s content in the twilight. It was great to see new parents rubbing shoulders with veterans - a good ol' catch up for others too. Richard Taylor-West, Housemaster of Red Cross

A wonderful evening spent with our Shield family last week. It was lovely to get everyone together and introduce new staff too. We look forward to Christmas when we can all be together again. Rebecca Jutson, Housemistress of Shield

It was lovely to welcome Chevron pupils, new and old, and their parents. Pupils proudly showed off the new paint work and higher ceilings in the house, at this stage of the term, their rather tidy desks. Long may that continue! September is a time of hope and excitement about the new beginnings of the Academic Year, and I am looking forward to working with pupils and parents alike as we navigate our way through another with all that Hurst has to offer. Duffy Parry, Housemaster of Chevron

The prefects did a terrific job behind the bar, labelling the parents so that they could recognise who else had a daughter in their year group and helped to tidy at the end. A great way to start off the year ahead. Tania Fielden, Housemistress of Pelican
