Ensemble Concert - Hurstpierpoint College

Ensemble Concert

Monday 27 saw the Ensemble Concert showcased in the Music School. The Senior School music ensembles put on an incredible musical performance featuring a variety of musical styles and instruments with pupils from Year 7 to Upper Sixth. This concert provided the students with an opportunity to present the hard work they have been doing and rehearsing during the Lent term to a supportive audience of teachers, friends, and family.

The Fifth Form flute ensemble, Flute Cocktail kicked off the concert with ‘Arabesques’ by Leroy Ostranksy. Fluette, the Lower Sixth Flute group followed, performing ‘Mermaids and Muses’ by Paul Lewis – both doing an excellent job. The Jazz band performed with two pieces, the jazz standard ‘Satin Doll’ with a solo from James B, and Elton John’s ‘I’m Still Standing’ with Liv M improvising a solo. The string ensemble was the penultimate performance with a medley from Claude-Michel Schönberg’s musical ‘Les Misérables’. And to finish the programme of the evening, the College Brass performed an arrangement of ‘Love Me Tender’ and ‘Prince of Denmark March’ to end an evening of fantastic musical performances.

It was a fantastic evening to round off the musical achievements and developments of the Lent term and it is brilliant to see such a large and engaging audience attend and show their support for the musicians.

Well done to all pupils who performed, this was a fantastic showcase of the effort you all put into making music at Hurst. The music department would like to thank Ms. Hodgson, Mr. Travers, Ms. Wickens, and upper sixth pupil Matthew G for the hard work they put into running and rehearsing these ensembles.
