We love to celebrate our Hurst Foundation members. We do this through our Hurst Foundation website news pages and annual Hurst Foundation magazine.

The Hurst Foundation arranges events, reunions and celebrations between Foundation members in the UK and around the world.

In October 2024, we celebrated the 175th Anniversary of Hurst. The big event was a Reunion dinner. The Foundation team also set-up a number of smaller events which included a Hurst community walk up Wolstonbury Hill, Tours of Danny House in Hurstpierpoint and a tea party between Junior Prep pupils and OJs.

Other recent events have included:

• Young OJ Networking Event, London (2024)
• Singing Vivaldi in a Day (2024)
• CCF 75th Anniversary Challenge and Mess Dinner (2024)
• Wine Tasting Evening (2024)
• House of Lords Dinner, London (2023)
• Common Room Reunion – for retired Hurst teachers (2023)
• Requiem in a Day (2023)

The Hurst Foundation team oversees an OJ network of groups and societies. These include:

• Former Hurst House groups
• Sports groups
• University groups
• Careers-focused groups
• Regional Alumni groups (e.g. Australia Alumni, Middle East Alumni)
• Other groups requested by our Members (such as Cancer Support, Hurst Choir group and the ‘OHJ Over 60s’ group)

The Hurst Foundation online Business Directory also provides a platform for the Hurst Foundation community to publicise their businesses, and gives Members a searchable directory of OJ, parent and staff owned businesses.

The Foundation team look for meaningful connections that will help develop the leaders of tomorrow at Hurst.

The Foundation work with the Hurst Futures team to organise careers talks and networking events so that pupils in our Senior School and Sixth Form can better understand real-world routes into careers they are interested in – and jobs they might not even be aware of yet.

Some of our Members act as Mentors who volunteer their time to speak at these Hurst careers events.

Recent events have included:

• A talk about Degree Apprenticeships for Lower Sixth students
• Guest speakers carousel event for Fifth Form (Year 11) pupils
• Talks on Careers in Finance and Banking
• Employability Day for Lower Sixth students – including sessions on writing CVs and cover letters, interview skills, and understanding the importance of ‘soft skills’

We employ a dedicated School Archivist who collects, records and carefully archives, Hurst artefacts. These include digital and printed photographs, school uniform, Hurst memorabilia, recordings, and personal memories (written and verbal).

The digital Hurst Archives, available to Members, includes:

• Photographs
• Hurst Johnian magazines (starting from 1859)
• Hurst in wartime archive – a dedicated war memorial website to pay homage to the generations of staff and pupils who gave their lives serving their country during wartime. The archive covers both World Wars plus other conflicts

The Hurst Foundation works to raise funds for life-changing bursaries to enable children to attend Hurst.

Donations can be given via the Hurst Foundation in multiple ways:
