Swimming | Hurst College | Sport

Swimming is a popular sport at Hurst and, due to its growth in popularity in recent years, Swimming is now offered as a year-round sport at Hurst. The new Hurst Swimming Pool also opened in September 2025.

Find out more about our Swimming programme for 2025-26, and the new swimming pool, in our Swimming booklet below.

Swimming Training at Hurst

Swimming is included as an option during timetabled Games sessions, for both Juniors (Years 9 and 10) and Seniors (Years 11 to 13). In addition, early morning coaching sessions are available to pupils.

In addition to games sessions and weekly lessons, all students have the chance to train throughout the week. This provides swimmers with support in their swim training as well as a club training environment during the week to assist pupils/parents. This also maintains, or tops up, their swimming whilst at school to help maintain their fitness for club swimming.

Pupils in the Senior School also have the opportunity to use the scheduled Strength and Conditioning sessions in the evenings and specific one-to-one sessions can be arranged for Sports Scholars and swimming team members.

Skills and Technical Development Sessions

Within the Hurst Games programme, we run a series of skills and technical development sessions which can include video analysis and feedback on a one-to-one basis as required.

Fixtures and Tournaments

Galas take place throughout the school year, usually on Thursdays and Saturdays, and the Hurst teams compete in both inter-school and national competitions. These include the Schools Swimming Super League which was set-up by Hurst Swimming coaches.

The Hurst Swimming squads have a strong reputation across Sussex, through their successes at the ESSA Nationals and Bath Cup, and they are consistently highly ranked at events.

Water Polo

Every year, Hurst holds Inter-House Water Polo competitions, which are held in the on-site swimming pool. These are popular and well-supported events in the College calendar.

Holiday Training

During specific holidays we run a series of skill and technical development sessions to further enhance swimmers ability.

To support our pupils’ development, and assist their club swimming, we can provide video analysis and feedback on a one-to-one basis, as required. Additional one-to-one to sessions can be offered to pupils on Saturday afternoons and are ideal for those looking to develop/correct specific parts of their stroke, swim skills or as additional training for a specific event.

Swimming Scholarships

Sports Scholarships are available at 16+ (Lower Sixth) entry and include Swimming.
