Students in Years 7 and 8 have been diving into the world of scientific discovery this term, developing their practical and analytical skills through the “Practical Challenge” element of their science curriculum.
Not only have pupils engaged in a variety of hands-on experiments as well as learning how to plan investigations, carry out methods, and interpret data. Pupils also had the opportunity to exhibit their final work in a vibrant Year 8 Science Fair where they showcased their group projects with the knowledge and skills gained across the two years.
The fair featured a wide range of creative and thought-provoking experiments and investigations — from the chemistry of fizzy alginate balls to the physics of non-Newtonian fluids and their unusual viscosity.
A fitting conclusion to a term of exploration and discovery, attended by members of the Science Faculty, highlighted not only the students’ scientific understanding but also their independence, teamwork, and presentation abilities. Teachers praised the pupils for their hard work and enthusiasm, describing the fair as “a lovely way to celebrate their success.”
