Year 8 Careers Morning - Hurstpierpoint College

Year 8 pupils took part in an engaging Business Awareness Event, designed to give them a behind-the-scenes insight into what it takes to run an organisation—using Hurst as a real-life case study.

The event brought together a range of internal departments, including Finance and HR, Catering, Marketing and Estates, each offering a unique perspective on their essential role within the College community.

Delivered through a carousel of interactive sessions, pupils rotated between departments, hearing directly from staff about their work and experiences. Each session gave valuable insight into the day-to-day responsibilities within the department, helping pupils understand how different teams collaborate to keep the College running smoothly.

Staff members also shared the qualifications and training required for their roles, highlighting the varied pathways into careers across business operations. Pupils learned about the diverse skills needed, from financial planning and people management to creative marketing and operational logistics.

A particular highlight of the event was hearing about each speaker’s personal career journey. These stories provided pupils with relatable and inspiring examples of how careers can evolve over time, often taking unexpected but rewarding directions.

Throughout the event, pupils actively engaged by completing a workbook, answering questions and reflecting on what they had learned in each session. This helped reinforce their understanding and encouraged them to think more deeply about their own future aspirations.
