Year 3 had a fantastic day exploring Anne of Cleves House, discovering what life was like in Tudor times through drama, storytelling and hands on activities.
The visit began with a lively and engaging workshop led by an actor playing one of Mistress Cleves’ ladies-in-waiting. The children were completely captivated as they helped act out the dramatic story of Henry VIII and his six wives. From royal court scenes to key moments in Tudor history, everyone threw themselves into the roles with brilliant enthusiasm, including Miss Mison as the executioner and Mrs Deelman as Anne of Cleves herself.
After the workshop, we enjoyed a guided tour of the house. The children were fascinated to step inside real Tudor rooms, including the parlour, where ladies would sit to do their “clean work”, the cosy bedroom and the bustling kitchen. They asked thoughtful questions and loved spotting the differences between Tudor life and the modern day.
Lunch was shared in the beautiful Tudor gardens, where the children had time to relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings before an afternoon full of hands-on exploration. The absolute highlight of the afternoon was dressing up in traditional Tudor outfits in the bedroom, where there were plenty of smiles, laughter and striking royal poses.
