Herstmonceux Observatory Visit - Hurstpierpoint College

Year 1 pupils became budding astronomers as they set off on an exciting adventure to the Herstmonceux Observatory Science Centre. The trip, filled with wonder and wide-eyed curiosity, gave the children a hands-on opportunity to learn all about space, planets, and the wonders of our universe.

Upon arrival, the pupils were amazed by the Observatory’s giant domes and historic telescopes. They explored two telescope domes, including one with a moving floor, and learnt about the materials used in real space suits. Later in the day, pupils took part in a range of interactive science activities, including powering an electric train, experimenting with gravity games, exploring echo tubes, diverting water to make mechanisms move, and trying out the giant Archimedes Screw.

The highlight for many was stepping inside the telescope domes and seeing where astronomers once made important discoveries. It was a day full of excitement, learning, and unforgettable moments.
