Year 4 pupils enjoyed a memorable journey back to the 1940s as they took part in an immersive World War II Day filled with hands-on activities, traditional games, and fascinating artifacts.
Throughout the day, children experienced what life might have been like for pupils during the war. They took part in skipping rope, a classic playground pastime that would have been familiar to children in the 1940s. A marching session and PE activities further helped them understand the routines and discipline that were part of school life during that era.
Traditional games also made an appearance, with pupils trying their hand at tiddlywinks and testing their aim at ring toss. Laughter, friendly competition, and plenty of concentration filled the room as pupils discovered simple but much-loved games from the past.
To bring the experience to life even more, pupils dressed up in WW2 inspired costumes, adding an authentic touch to the day’s learning. They also took part in an artifact sharing session, exploring items from the era and discussing what these objects would have meant to families during wartime.
The event offered Year 4 an engaging, interactive way to deepen their understanding of World War II, making history come alive through play, discovery, and imagination.
