Outdoor Pursuits

Mountain biking

Mountain biking is a fun outdoor pursuits option for students in the Senior School.

They are taken out on local trails in the countryside surrounding the College by Hurst’s Mountain Bike leaders, including up onto the South Downs.

Students develop their technique and stamina allowing them to access longer and more challenging routes.

Skiing

Training

Hurst students can take part in skiing and snowboarding as part of our Outdoor Pursuits programme. Lessons and training sessions take place at facilities nearby. All ages and abilities are catered for.

Trips

We offer two ski trips a year for students.

Competitions

Hurst has a competitive ski team who have been hugely successful in the Independent Schools Skiing and Snowboarding Championships (ISSSC) in recent years. The team also competes at the British Indoor Schools Ski (BISS) competition and our students enter individual events throughout the year.

Water Sports

We offer a wide range of water sports as part of our Outdoor Pursuits provision.

Water sports on offer at Hurst include:

  • Canoeing
  • Dingy sailing
  • Kayaking
  • Off-shore sailing
  • Paddle boarding
  • Rowing
  • Surfing

Whether a novice or experienced hand, opportunities are provided for students to develop their skills and then take to the water.

Local facilities

Most Water Sports sessions take place locally, at Ardingly Reservoir, where a team of instructors work with individuals and crews to refine their technique and make the most of the vessels and the conditions.

Trips

There are trips on offer for students with an interest in water sports. Hurst also holds sailing days and weekends from Portsmouth and Southampton for students in the sailing team.

Competitions
