Outdoor Education
Our pupils are able to experience a range of outdoor pursuits, including climbing, triathlons, kayaking, sailing, and orienteering. Equestrian is an option for pupils interested in show jumping and dressage.
Equestrian
Hurst Equestrian opportunities are expanding. We offer training and team events across equestrian disciplines.
As part of the school week, we offer weekly training sessions at Hascombe Equestrian Centre, which is located in the South Downs National Park. In 2024, Hurst opened stables at Hascombe and pupils who have their horses stabled there are able to travel on a school minibus once a week for a supervised ride within school hours. This is in addition to the Hurst Equestrian weekly training. On occasion the team will also train at Hickstead.
We have a team of around 40 pupils, from Junior Prep to the Sixth Form, who represent the College in the equestrian disciplines of Show Jumping, Dressage, and Eventing. They compete at local and national competitions, including the National Schools Equestrian Association (NSEA) Championships. Pupils who are interested in representing the College in the Equestrian team must have their own horse/pony or be able to loan one.
We have close links with the world-famous All England Jumping Course, Hickstead. Hurst has sponsored the annual National Schools, Pony Club, and NSEA Show Jumping Championships since 2009. In addition, every September we host annual the Hurst Invitational Schools Show Jumping Competition at Hickstead.
Hurst Equestrian has its own website, where you can find out more about training, competitions, results, and news.
