JPS PSHCE Morning - Hurstpierpoint College

Pupils from Reception to Year 6 took part in a vibrant and enriching PSHCE (Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education) morning. During periods 1 and 2, form rooms transformed into hubs of exploration and reflection as children engaged with age-appropriate topics designed to nurture their personal development and wellbeing.

The morning was thoughtfully structured to ensure each year group explored a theme relevant to their stage of learning:

  • Reception to Year 2 celebrated Black History Month, discovering inspiring individuals whose stories have shaped society. Through storytelling and creative activities, pupils developed empathy, respect, and a deeper appreciation for diversity.
  • Year 3 tackled the issue of food waste, discussing how everyday choices impact the planet. Interactive tasks encouraged pupils to think critically about sustainability and how small changes can lead to big improvements in reducing waste.
  • Year 4 focused on digital wellbeing, reflecting on healthy habits in the digital world. Pupils explored screen time, online kindness, and the importance of switching off, building awareness around safe and balanced tech use.
  • Year 5 delved into financial literacy, gaining early insights into budgeting and money management. Through engaging activities—including writing poems and raps—pupils explored real-life scenarios and created eye-catching resources to share their learning.
  • Year 6 investigated healthy lifestyles and sleep, examining how rest, nutrition, and routine affect mood, learning, and overall wellbeing. The session promoted self-awareness and encouraged pupils to make positive lifestyle choices.

This dedicated PSHCE morning not only supported curriculum goals but also empowered pupils to think deeply about the world around them and their role within it. The range of topics sparked curiosity, conversation, and creativity—laying strong foundations for lifelong learning and personal growth.
