Glorious sunshine greeted the competitors from 24 Sussex prep schools who descended on Hurst last Monday.
Hosting the U10 and U11 age group at 52nd annual Sussex Association of Prep School Athletics (SAPSA) event was no mean feat! Each school had to be socially distanced with their own gazebo, team area and toilet facilities around the track. Hurst’s ground staff did their best to make it look like London 2012 – and succeeded!
Pupils contested the usual events from the 75m run to the cricket ball throw and everything in between. For the first time this year shot, discus and javelin events were added and proved very popular. It is great to start pupils in these technically challenging events at such a young age.
In the short medal ceremony following the athletics competition, and with no overall winners, the honours were evenly spread amongst most schools, demonstrating the strength of athletics across the county.
