Final DT project completed - Hurstpierpoint College

Final DT project completed

Year 8 Design and Technology pupils recently completed their final DT project in the Prep School – LED lights.

During their second DT project this year, pupils learnt about manufactured boards, in particular plywood, and how it is manufactured. They used templates to accurately mark out the three layers of their plywood base which they then cut using scroll saws. Next, they soldered together their electronic circuit which was concealed within the plywood layers.  The pupils also designed the acrylic part of their lights using TechSoft Design (a 2D computer-aided design programme) which was then cut and engraved on the laser cutter.

I'm sure you will agree, the Year 8 pupils have come up with some bright ideas! Kaeran MacDonald, Head of Design and Technology
