Pupils from Year 8 at Hurst demonstrated exceptional dedication, teamwork, and community spirit during their Community Action Morning.
The morning saw students split across three major projects, all aimed at giving back to the local community. One group travelled to Burgess Hill Rugby Club, where they rolled up their sleeves to assist with essential pitch maintenance ahead of the new season. Their main task involved filling drainage channels with soil, a physically demanding job that the pupils approached with energy and enthusiasm.
Another team lent their support to St Edward’s Church in Burgess Hill, helping with hedge trimming and churchyard maintenance. Their efforts helped tidy and refresh the historic grounds, offering valuable support to the church’s small volunteer team.
Meanwhile, the final group stayed on the school grounds to help host a sports day for over 200 Year 3 pupils from the eight primary schools in the Hurst Educational Trust. From setting up events to encouraging and guiding younger students throughout the activities, the Year 8 pupils played a central role in ensuring the day was a success.
Across all activities, Hurst staff praised the pupils for their hard work, team spirit, and the passion they brought to every task. They were a real credit to the School.
“It was inspiring to see them so engaged in meaningful service. This was a really fulfilling morning for everyone involved.”
The Community Action Morning is an annual highlight at Hurst, designed to instil a sense of responsibility and community engagement in pupils. Judging by the results this year, the future is in very good hands.
