The Haunting of Raven Towers - Hurstpierpoint College

A cast of 70 talented Year 7 pupils took to the stage in a captivating production of The Haunting of Raven Towers, delivering a richly imaginative and darkly comic performance that thrilled audiences.

The play follows Leo and Lenore Higgins, two unusual siblings whose love of poetry, Gothic drama and all things dark sets them apart from their “perfectly normal” parents—and causes chaos at school. Their eccentric behaviour leaves teachers overwhelmed, with everything from eerie chants to philosophical maths answers testing patience to the limit.

Their fortunes appear to change when they are sent to Raven Towers, a mysterious and crumbling boarding school where individuality is not discouraged but celebrated. Surrounded by velvet cloaks, candlelit corridors and a shared appreciation for the macabre, the twins finally seem to have found a place where they belong.

However, beneath the school’s dark charm lies a far more sinister reality. As Leo and Lenore become immersed in lessons that blur the lines between literature and ritual, they uncover secrets that hint at something ancient and dangerous lurking within the walls. With the gates locked and a foreboding pageant approaching, the siblings must decide whether to embrace the darkness they love or stand against it.

Blending elements inspired by literary greats such as Edgar Allan Poe, Charles Dickens and Mary Shelley, the production offered a powerful mix of Gothic storytelling, humour and theatrical flair.
