Sussex Track and Field County Championships 2025

Hurst Athletics has been running at full speed, seeing a record number of entries (37) into the Sussex Track and Field County Championships. This competition is usually only reserved for club athletes, however, Hurst received an invitation from Sussex Athletics that could not be turned down.

Despite challenging conditions, including swirling winds that tested the mettle of sprinters and throwers alike, the team achieved extraordinary results. A total of 28 Hurst athletes secured podium finishes—a truly outstanding accomplishment highlighting the depth and talent within the squad.

Leading from the front, Girls’ team captain Jess B set a new championship record in the 100m hurdles, clocking a superb 14.44 seconds. Equally impressive was Lucas B, who leapt to a remarkable 6.12 metres in the Boys’ long jump to claim a sensational gold medal.

Several Hurst athletes bravely stepped outside their comfort zones to tackle new events, demonstrating courage and determination. Notably, Joe H delivered an admirable effort in the demanding 5000m race. Though just missing out on a sub-19-minute finish on this occasion, his performance epitomised the fighting spirit of the team.

Jason Jeffery, Head of Athletics at Hurst College, along with the coaching team, expressed immense pride in the squad’s collective achievements. The championship results affirm the effectiveness of our new training programmes, significantly boosting confidence among both our athletes and coaches.

Hurst athletes dominated the day, everywhere you looked there was a Hurst vest seen competing fiercely, celebrating victories atop the podium, or regrouping between events.

Congratulations to all athletes, coaches, and supporters involved in making this championship such a fantastic display of athletic excellence.
