SPS Charity Disco Raises Over £1,400 - Hurstpierpoint College

The SPS once again proved that community spirit and great music make the perfect fundraising combination, as this year’s Charity Disco drew another fantastic turnout from pupils.

Following the success of last year’s event, expectations were high—and the evening didn’t disappoint. The disco, now a muchloved highlight of the school calendar, brought together dancing, games and charitable giving, all in support of Cameron’s Orphanage.

Adding to the excitement, the House Charity Captains and their teams returned with their popular fundraising stalls. This year’s offerings included drinks and sweets stalls as well as temporary tattoos, encouraging pupils to bring along spare coins and join in the fun while supporting a worthy cause.

The evening blended joy and generosity in equal measure, showcasing the school’s commitment to helping others—and proving once again that SPS knows how to throw a party with purpose.

The result was an impressive £1,463.48, marking another year of meaningful impact. This money will go directly towards the Itala Foundation School, where it will make a truly transformative difference. The funds raised are enough to buy 12,000 bricks, 44 bags of cement, 20 tonnes of quarry stones, 20 tonnes of quarry dust and 30 tonnes of building sand—all the materials needed to create concrete for the foundations, floor slab and walls of a new block of 14 toilets and 2 shower cubicles.

This is a vital project for a school of 1,800 students—similar in size to Hurst—but currently with only 7 boys’ and 7 girls’ toilets, and no showers or changing facilities. The school serves vulnerable children and orphans, many of whom are considered among the poorest in the world. While a toilet block might not sound glamorous, the community in Mkushi is incredibly excited about what this will mean for dignity, hygiene and daily life—something that can be hard for us to imagine.

In July, Hurst’s Lower and Upper Sixth students will travel to Mkushi to help build the new facilities, turning SPS’s fundraising efforts into a lasting and life‑changing contribution.
