Silver DofE expedition assessments - Hurstpierpoint College

The year ended with a flurry of expedition assessments for both Year 11 and Year 12 students. With all the changes in requirements from the DofE our Outdoor Education Department has established a suitable alternative for our students.

On day one, the various groups went by minibus to Tottington Manor and commenced their trek up Edburton Hill. They walked along the Downs to Devil’s Dyke towards Hurst – for an arduous start.

After camping at Hurst overnight, day two involved a very scenic loop around Ditchling and Wivelsfield, which seemed to cause the most navigation issues. Another night of camping and then on day three the groups went up Jack & Jill, down and up to Waterhall, down and up to Sadlescombe and the same again for Devil’s Dyke.

The weather had been kind to all the groups throughout and most enjoyed the home-grown assessment, but of course, pleased to have completed their award with a successful expedition.  Fred Simkins, Director of Outdoor Education
