Sport at Hurst | Hurst College

Welcome

At Hurst, we firmly believe that sport is for all. Our mantra is “No one on the bench”.

We offer a wide range of sports to promote a healthy, active lifestyle for all our pupils, Hurst also has an enviable record in county, regional and national competitions.

Our Director of Sport is Liam Doubler, an experienced and forward-thinking sports leader with over 28 years in education and performance sport, including 18 years as a Director of Sport. Liam is passionate about creating a culture where every pupil is supported to thrive, whether they are aspiring elite athletes or discovering sport for the first time.

Portrait of Liam Doubler, Director of Sport at Hurst College in Hurstpierpoint.A cornerstone of Liam’s philosophy is mentorship. He believes in developing the whole person through sport—fostering character, resilience, and leadership. He has mentored many student-athletes within performance pathways, many of whom have gone on to play professional and international sport, including in the Premiership, for the British and Irish Lions, and at the Commonwealth Games and Olympic Games. He also works closely with young teachers and coaches, helping them grow in confidence, skill, and purpose.

Liam’s approach aligns closely with The Hurst Way and its core values: Work Hard, Do Good, Engage. Liam aims to create a decision-rich, performance environment, supported by purposeful practice, where students and staff can ‘learn – fail – learn’ in a safe and empowering space. He believes that every pupil should experience an outstanding, inclusive sports programme where ‘Development drives Performance’ and where all talents are recognised and championed.
