The theme for the Senior Prep School Review of the Year was celebration. Although individuals won prizes, the major focus was what had been achieved as a collective over the course of the academic year. For the pupils, the end-of-year review was a reminder of what they had achieved and a time to consider what to aim for next. For parents, the event was a chance to hear from the pupils about what they were most proud of this year and give a review of all aspects of Hurst life.
During the celebration, there was entertainment from Drama pupils who performed pieces from HONK, A Midsummer’s Night’s Dream, and the recent Dance Showcase. A video montage of the year captured many fabulous moments. The event finished with Austin H talking about his experiences in the past year, including some excellent advice for us all about mindset and being your ‘authentic self’. The Year 8s were clapped by the Year 7s as they left the event for the Inter-House Sports Day.
From the moment the pupils assembled on the playground in their house groups, before marching over to Eastfield, the Inter-House Sports Day was a team event. There was mass participation in the sports, and every competitor earned points. Traditional sports were supplemented with climbing, sack races, space hopper races, and running relays. A number of Senior Prep athletics records were also broken this year. Pupils won individual medals, and, in addition, one pupil from each House group was crowned Victrix and Victor Lundorum (Latin phrases meaning female and male ‘winner of the games’).
