Despite early disruption due to adverse weather, this year’s SAPSA athletics programme was a resounding success for Hurst, showcasing exceptional talent, determination, and depth across all year groups.
The Year 4 and Year 5 SAPSA competition, postponed by one week, proved well worth the wait. Competing against a strong field of schools, our athletes delivered outstanding performances throughout the day. Many progressed confidently from their heats into finals, with a significant number securing podium finishes. Notably, several Year 3 pupils stepped up to compete, demonstrating impressive ability and promising potential for the future.
The momentum continued into the Year 6–8 SAPSA event at K2 in Crawley, where Hurst athletes achieved remarkable results. This year saw our highest-ever number of qualifiers progress to the national finals in Birmingham on 1 July. Against fierce competition, Hurst emerged as a leading force, achieving a wealth of top three finishes and underlining the strength of our athletics programme.
Looking ahead, we are proud to be sending twenty-nine individual athletes and three relay teams to represent Hurst at the national finals, a phenomenal accomplishment that reflects both talent and dedication.
In addition, our track and field cup teams have delivered excellent performances in the regional rounds. The Year 7 and 8 boys’ team secured 2nd place, while the Year 7 and 8 girls’ team claimed 1st place, earning a well-deserved place at the national finals in Chelmsford on 4 July.
The girls’ team is in a strong position to compete confidently against the top 12 schools in the country.
Overall, it has been an exceptional term for athletics at Hurst, marked by impressive achievements, enthusiastic participation, and exciting opportunities ahead.
