Research project presentations

On a wintry November afternoon nearly 80 students gathered in the sports hall to give their (socially distanced) EPQ presentations – the final part of their research project process and the culmination of a year’s worth of work.

The EPQ is a research project on any topic and each student presented their project in its entirety. In addition, each had created display boards to illustrate their speech – some with immense visual flair. The eclectic topics ranged from superconductors to philosophy in rap music.

What really makes this event special is that students can view and discuss their work with each other. They have all been through the same process but have had different experiences. Staff were also able to see the presentations and chat to the students about them. There is a real sense of collective pride at all their independent work.

As usual, there was a vote for the best display board. This year there were six winners as the standard of work was so high: Chris Lawson’s cookbook for vegans and non-vegans; Phoebe Cardy’s recycled garment; Alice Graham’s investigation into AI in two player board games; Tom Ringer’s report on arachnophobia; Annabel Clark’s skincare range and Ella Lucas’ anatomical sketchbook.

There were many other excellent presentations and those mentioned are just a small taster of the wealth of knowledge on display Dominique Collins, Head of EPQ
