Rainforest Charity Morning - Hurstpierpoint College

Rainforest Charity Morning

On Friday, years 3 and 4 enjoyed a fun-filled arts and crafts charity morning to raise funds to save a small part of our planet’s rainforest. This coincided with the finale of their production, The Emerald Crown.

Collaborating with Albourne Primary School, the two year groups brought in a donation to create their own versions of jungle-themed Snakes and Ladders. Pupils decorated their boards with tree frogs, anacondas, sloths and bats, with a collage of leaves around the border. The children had the opportunity to play each other’s games and enjoyed displaying their wonderful work in a class gallery. Some pupils also used paper plates and vibrant colours to design and make realistic-looking toucan art. They applied blended colours to effectively create the beaks.

As part of their donation, the children received a small gift of tropical fans, animal keyrings and floral hair slides to take home. They were delighted to raise £316.16 for the World Land Trust. With this money, years 3 and 4 have purchased three acres of rainforest, which will help to permanently protect nature reserves within the rainforests of South America forever.

What an amazing fundraising achievement! Kate O’Neill, Teacher of Year 4
