Earlier in May, the Prep School “Ultra Challenge Team” organised a fun-filled charity afternoon to raise funds for Evelina London Children’s Charity, a cause close to the hearts of many. The event featured a variety of engaging activities, including a raffle with fantastic prizes such as AI-assisted language lessons, doughnuts or brownies for the entire class, teachers carrying students’ bags from the car, a trip up the chapel tower, a crazy hair day, and a pastry masterclass from Sodexo chefs.
The highlights of the afternoon were undoubtedly the bake sale and the wet sponge throwing, where ten brave teachers volunteered to be targets for an hour. Participants had the option to purchase buckets of water, and a few even included lumps of ice, making the event even more memorable. Fortunately, the warm weather added to the enjoyment of the day.
Over the weekend, in an extraordinary display of endurance, teamwork, and community spirit, the Hurst Prep School “Ultra Challenge Team” successfully completed a 100km walk from London to Brighton, testing the team both physically and emotionally.
With literal and metaphorical ups and downs, the route featured steep climbs, long descents, and moments of exhaustion— but also laughter, camaraderie, and unforgettable memories.
Among the highlights of the journey were:
• A heartwarming encounter with a Hurst pupil, Austin, and his family, who have been heavily involved in the effort to support Evelina’s charity
• Surprise visits from pupils, colleagues, and friends along the route
• The triumphant arrival at the finish line at Brighton Racecourse
The team expressed deep gratitude for the outpouring of support from the Hurst community and beyond. Special thanks were extended to B&Q, Tesco, and Krispy Kreme for their generous contributions to the fundraising effort.
This remarkable achievement is a testament to the power of perseverance and the strength of community.
Congratulations to the entire team on such an inspiring journey and for raising an incredible amount for Evelina London Children’s Charity: totalling to over £9,000.
The fundraising page remains open for those who wish to support the cause. Donations will go directly to Evelina London Children’s Charity, helping to provide life-changing care for children and their families.
