The annual JPS and SPS Summer Ensemble Concert proved to be a vibrant celebration of musical talent, as pupils took to the stage in the New Bury Theatre for an evening of varied and lively performances.
The concert opened with the Jazz Band setting the tone with energetic renditions of Rock Hero and the timeless swing classic Sing, Sing, Sing. Their confident performance immediately engaged the audience and created an exciting atmosphere for the evening ahead.
The Year 8 Band followed with a smooth and expressive performance of The Blues, demonstrating impressive musicality and ensemble skills. String players then took centre stage, with Simply Strings delivering a charming contrast through Fiddle Faddle and the contemporary hit Pink Pony Club.
Younger musicians also had their moment to shine. The Rockin’ Recorders delighted the audience with three pieces: EBGBs, Stardom Waltz, and Mr Cool, each performed with enthusiasm and growing confidence. Meanwhile, Tutti Flutti brought energy and fun to their performances of Union Street Express and Turkey Point Trot.
The Year 5 group added a theatrical flair with a selection of songs from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, capturing the spirit and storytelling of the much-loved musical.
Woodwind ensembles continued the musical journey, with Flute Salad performing Dixieland Blues and Flute Juice delivering the upbeat Eight O’Clock Cha-Cha, both pieces highlighting the pupils’ technical skill and sense of rhythm.
The Orchestra brought a grand sound to the evening with Haydn Rocks, followed by a dramatic and powerful rendition of In the Hall of the Mountain King, which captivated the audience.
To conclude the concert, the Junior Choir performed a lively medley from Matilda the Musical, ending the evening on a high note with their spirited and confident singing.
The Summer Ensemble Concert once again demonstrated the breadth of musical opportunity available to pupils at JPS and SPS. From beginners to more advanced performers, every ensemble contributed to a memorable event, showcasing dedication, teamwork, and a shared love of music.
