Josh Braid: Exploring Antarctica

This week, it was a pleasure to host Josh Braid once again, and to hear all about his recent adventures in Antarctica. When he last visited the College, Josh outlined his planned fundraising expedition to our pupils: to climb Antarctica’s highest peak, Mt. Vinson, and become the first person to ski to the South Pole pulling a rocking horse.

Josh certainly succeeded in his mission, and has so far raised a hugely impressive £40,000! The money will go to two small charities that Josh feels personally invested in, helping to support and raise awareness for their cause. First is the Rocking Horse Charity, who work with seriously and terminally ill children across Sussex, and Kidscape, who support the mental health of young people adversely affected by bullying. Josh describes how both charities are ‘close to [his] heart’, having ‘witnessed first-hand their incredible support’. Click here to donate and help Josh to reach his £50,000!

Since returning from Antarctica, Josh has been giving talks in different schools and clubs, inspiring young minds to set their own goals and adventures for the future. He told our pupils all about the challenges of surviving in polar conditions—the extreme temperatures, 24-hour daylight, vacuum-packaged meals, and intense solar radiation—but stressed the sense of achievement that came from finally reaching the South Pole!

We look forward to hearing about Josh’s future adventures, and wish him the best of luck for reaching his fundraising target.
