In a dazzling display of talent and determination, young athletes from Hurst Prep School travelled to Alexander Stadium, Birmingham, for the prestigious NPSA National Finals in July—and left their mark like never before.
This year, Hurst celebrated its largest-ever contingent of national qualifiers, a significant milestone in the school’s sporting history. Although the event overlapped with the school holidays—preventing a few qualified athletes from attending—those who competed showcased exceptional commitment, sportsmanship, and performance across a full spectrum of track and field disciplines.
On the track, Christina F, Oriana DR, Minnie G, and Julius P impressed in competitive middle-distance heats. Darcey G ran a fantastic 800m and was the only Year 6 to qualify to represent Hurst. Luke W narrowly missed the 100m final but powered through to qualify for the 200m, joined by Emily P. Isla HS convincingly won her heat in the hurdles and placed 4th in the final, while Louis M surged to a silver medal in the 80m hurdles. Track events finished off with relays where Year 8 girls delivered a thrilling performance, just shy of a medal, clocking a personal best of 55.11 seconds and ranking 4th nationally. Year 7 girls and Year 8 boys showed grit and teamwork in highly competitive races.
Brilliant victories were also achieved in the field events where Olivia W displayed skill in both shot put and javelin. Lola F earned silver in shot put and Olivia C claimed bronze in discus. Clementine LS achieved a stunning personal best to win silver in triple jump, while Louis M added bronze in the same event. Emily CR and Isla HS competed in long jump, and high jump efforts came from Christina F and Minnie G.
The day concluded with Hurst Prep securing its highest-ever medal count at this national event—a proud testament to the school’s growing prominence in athletics.
