First Model United Nations conference - Hurstpierpoint College

First Model United Nations conference

Hurst hosted its first Model United Nations (MUN) conference last week, with 73 Fifth Form students attending from 12 schools.

Twelve Lower Sixth members of MUN spent the past few months preparing for the conference, drawing on their wide array of talents. From painting and laser-cutting, to balloon construction, the MUN organising team worked extremely hard to ensure the event was a success.

They also finalised three issues for the participating students to debate: colonisation of the moon, fast fashion and 9/11. Each student represented a different country, presenting their views to work towards an equitable and peaceful outcome. The Fifth Formers attendees, who had not participated in an MUN event before, impressed with their insightful and considered resolutions.

It was an occasion to remember, and the Lower Sixth team look forward to using the skills learnt to organise the upcoming Shell conference in June Phoebe M, Lower Sixth MUN member

Congratulations to Phoebe, Joe, Rosie, Isabella, Tom, Benji, Will, Theo, Zöe, Amelia, Margret and Ella for organising a great event. I received some excellent feedback from the participants and their parents Kieran Nash, Teacher of Politics
