Cup games aplenty

U18 girls’ hockey team in full swing to progress

With the season in full swing and half term approaching, there are cup games aplenty, with our girls’ first hockey team playing in two major outdoor cup competitions this year – the England U18 National Cup and the Independents Schools Cup.

In the Independent Schools Cup, we had a preliminary game against Reed’s to overcome if we were to make round one. A fantastic team performance took the girls through with a 4-1 win, as they demonstrated skilful, mature hockey from start to finish and now look forward to playing St Teresa’s in round one tomorrow.

The first round of the England Hockey Cup was played away against Eastbourne College last Thursday. This is always a good test for our girls, but with a laboured start and not the slickest of performances from Eastbourne, they swiftly progressed to round two with a 3-1 victory. They put in maximum effort throughout with fine performances from Rosie scoring two goals and Amy scoring one. Equally, our goalkeeper Kennedy had a fantastic game and bravely fought off Eastbourne’s bold attackers.

“The girls put 100% into this game, sometimes you find yourselves in a position where you have to keep working and trust the processes to get the result, this was certainly the case in this instance. An excellent performance all-round,” Scott Simkins, Development & Performance Manager.
