Conservative victory in Hurst mock election

Disciplined Tory campaign held off strong Lib Dem challenge

The Conservative Party candidate, Upper Sixth former Alice G, won yesterday’s Hurst College mock general election with 34.4 per cent of the vote.

Alice and her team fought a disciplined campaign, focusing on Brexit, education and the NHS. She held off a strong challenge from the Liberal Democrats, who performed well at the live untelevised election debate on Monday. Their candidate, Hattie P, scored 26.5 per cent of the vote.

The students’ environmental concern was reflected in a strong showing for Alex C, representing the Green party, who scored 17.2 per cent of the vote, while Dan R of the Brexit Party garnered 14.3 per cent and Oscar G of the Labour Party gained 7.4 per cent.

“All of our candidates and their teams did an excellent job educating the electorate, and it’s encouraging to see how many students participated – this is a generation whose interest in politics has been well and truly awoken over the last few years!” Brian Schofield, Head of Politics.
