Cambridge University visit

As part of Hurst’s HSU (Highly Selective University) programme, members of the Lower Sixth visited Cambridge University for a first-hand insight about how the Oxbridge application process works – and perhaps more importantly, what they need to do to gain a place on the highly-competitive courses these institutions offer.

Forty-five students attended a talk by Dr Matt Bullimore of Churchill College which covered aspects of the admissions process and life as a student, and was followed up by a tour of the college from current undergraduates. After a quick lunch the group walked into the city centre via the university Library and the Sidgwick Site. Students were then given time to explore the city centre colleges where the more traditional buildings contrasted greatly with the modernist design of Churchill’s campus and provided them with a more traditional flavour of Cambridge life. Some students also stocked up on reading material at Heffers Bookshop.

The students returned with a clear sense of what Cambridge has to offer, and a desire to start thinking carefully what they need to do between now and the UCAS deadline to make their application as strong as possible Liam Agate, Director of Academic Development
