Budding light designers

Remove students studying Design and Technology are about to embark on a new project to design and manufacture a light based on a design movement from the past 150 years.

As part of their preparations, they visited the Design Museum in London and took part in a lighting workshop. They were able to analyse a range of lights from the museum’s handling collection, as well as design their own lights to address a range of given problems.

Our students also had the opportunity to look around the museum’s permanent Designer Maker User exhibition which tells the history of mass production. They saw everything from the manufacturing innovations of the nineteenth century up to the digital and making revolution of the last few years.  The collection spans all aspects of design including architecture, fashion, furniture, product and graphic design, digital media and transport.
