Brighton marathon weekend 2021 - Hurstpierpoint College

Brighton marathon weekend 2021

As with most sporting events, the annual Brighton Marathon was cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic. So, the 2021 event marked an important return of the marathon weekend, despite it being postponed from the usual spring date until the autumn.

By the time the marathon came around last Saturday, the participants were more than ready to put on their running shoes and perform in front of a crowd. Being present at sporting events is another aspect of life which has made a welcome return post-pandemic.

As in the past 10 years, Hurst supported the Brighton Marathon with staff and student volunteers who helped with one of the water stations dotted around the 26-mile course. Along with the water station, the College also provided the Hurst Rockers, who played from the bandstand at Hove Lawns, entertaining the runners and their supporters.

This year, several staff took part, completing the 26-miles (plus 568 metres) with some impressive times, a couple getting close to sub-three hours.
