Book in a Day - Hurstpierpoint College

Book in a Day

On Friday, Shell and Remove students were tasked with reading a Book in a Day.

A range of books were chosen and shortlisted for each year group based around the theme of Respect and Relationships. Students were asked to choose a book from the shortlist based on a review and one-page extract.

The original idea of students sitting and reading outside in the beautiful campus was not possible due to inclement weather. Instead, they were scattered around indoor venues and completed read their Book in a Day sat amongst comfy pillows and bean bags.

After a full day of reading, students and staff were divided into groups, based on their chosen book, to discuss the plot and complete a review. Key discussion points included analysis of the characters and how each were portrayed, based around context of the relationships explored and associated positive/negative connotations.

Engagement and enjoyment, from staff and students, were in evidence throughout the day. A huge thank you to Fleur students who designed some beautiful bookmarks for the occasion. A wonderful way to end what has been a busy second half of the Summer term Andrew Daville and Beccy Bownas, Directors of Respect and Relationships
