Bonding and team building challenge

Lower Sixth approach Blackland Farm activities with enthusiasm and determination

Last Thursday, the entire Lower Sixth went to Blackland Farm Activity Centre in East Grinstead, for the annual team building exercise. A range of activities were available, including zip lines, rock climbing, crate stacking, rope climbing, leap of faith and a blindfolded obstacle course.

Students were split into groups which encouraged them to get to know those from other houses. They also donned their brand new ‘What’s Your Why?’ t-shirts – a keepsake for years to come – exhibiting their support of the Hurst Sixth Form motto.

They were praised by staff for their enthusiasm, engagement and enjoyment, as all challenges were faced in the right spirit, and many overcame their fears through determination and perseverance. Particular mentions must go to Sarah Barrett who impressed with her strategic leadership skills, teamwork and determination to get a heavy jerry-can around a timed obstacle course, as well as Harry Robinson and Tom Richards, who displayed great team work to build a stack of crates 25 high.

“The day ended with a well-deserved barbecue on the Red Cross lawn. New students and old mixed and mingled over cans of Diet Coke and Oreo ice creams. It was a great day, and the Lower Sixth must be commended for approaching it with the right spirit,” Will Bradley, Assistant Head of Sixth Form.
