Welcome to Hurst Junior Prep - Hurstpierpoint College

Thank You for Attending Wild About the Woods

We hope your child enjoyed their time in our Woodland School and that it gave you a feel for our vibrant and nurturing community. The Junior Prep School is home to children aged four to eleven, from Reception through to Year 6, before they continue their journey at Hurst in the Senior Prep School for Years 7 and 8.

The Junior Prep is a very special place within Hurst where childhood is valued and celebrated. Here, children are encouraged to be curious in their thinking, courageous in their learning and kind in their actions. At the heart of everything we do is The Hurst Way, our unique guiding philosophy that shapes the culture here at Hurst.

Our ethos of Work Hard, Do Good and Engage underpins daily life in the Junior Prep. It encourages children to take pride in their learning, show care and respect for others, and embrace the many rich opportunities that Hurst offers. We believe that every child brings something unique to our community, and we are committed to helping each child discover their strengths, grow in confidence and develop a genuine love of learning.

Woodland School

Woodland School Every Week

Woodland School is a distinctive part of the Junior Prep experience. Pupils visit Hurst’s on-site Woodland School every week as part of their timetable, with sessions led by trained Level 3 Forest School leaders. Time outdoors gives children practical, hands-on learning in a natural setting. It helps them build confidence, self-esteem, and independence, while encouraging curiosity about the world around them.

Open Mornings

A Hurst Open Morning provides an opportunity for parents/guardians and prospective pupils to tour the campus, listen to presentations by the Head of College and current pupils, meet key members of staff, talk to pupils and view some of the classroom activities on show. It is an excellent way to see an overview of what Hurst has to offer.

Personal Tours

Personal Tours are run on weekdays and provide an opportunity for parents/guardians and prospective pupils to see the Hurst on a working day. You can pop in and out of lessons, talk to current pupils and staff, and even have a look at what is on the lunch menu for the day.
