The Awards
The Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Award scheme is a nationally recognised programme. The awards involve personalised programmes of activities in four (or five) sections:
- Volunteering
- Physical
- Skills
- Expedition
- Residential (required for the Gold Award)
Students can work to complete most of the sections for the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme through the activities they are involved in as part of the normal week at Hurst.
All of our students take part in the Silver Award. DofE begins with expedition training in Remove (Year 10) as part of the CCF programme and the practice expedition occurs at the end of the summer term. Students then complete their Silver award in the Fifth Form (Year 11). In the Sixth Form the Gold Award is an option.
