- Hurstpierpoint College

Fourteen Hurstpierpoint College pupils enjoyed an unforgettable February half term as they travelled to the Aphrodite Hills Resort in Cyprus for the College’s first tennis and padel tour delivered in partnership with Active Away. Over five days, pupils took part in high-quality coaching, friendly competition and a full programme of team activities.

Accompanied by staff members Mrs Sutherland and Mr Harrison, pupils arrived in Paphos full of energy despite the early start. After settling into their apartments and enjoying lunch overlooking the golf course, the group explored the resort and prepared for a busy week ahead.

Coaching began the following morning, with pupils rotating between sessions on Doubles DNA, Spanish style drills and an introduction to padel tactics. The popular Beat the Coach challenge brought plenty of excitement, with pupils giving their all against the coaching team before enjoying time in the gym, pool and spa facilities. Evening doubles matches and a lively quiz added to the sense of camaraderie.

A major highlight came as Hurst became the very first group to play on Aphrodite Hills’ new clay courts. A morning focused on volleying and transitional play was followed by inter-apartment match competition, where each win earned points for their room. The evening descended into a resort wide treasure hunt—complete with maps, clues and enthusiastic searching.

Monday involved tactical doubles training before pupils took part in the inaugural Active Away Cup, competing across singles and doubles formats. A coaches’ exhibition match provided further entertainment, and Musical Bingo ensured the day ended on a high.

The final morning’s competition proved incredibly close, with just two points separating the teams before Amelia’s Americans claimed the win.
