This week, Reception class soared to new heights of learning during the RSPB Big School Birdwatch, discovering the wonders of British birds through an array of exciting, different activities.
The children began their birdwatch journey by learning to identify native birds by their unique markings and chirps. To prepare for their birdwatching adventure, the children crafted their own binoculars made from toilet roll holders. Outdoors, the class put their binoculars to good use, eagerly spotting and identifying birds across the grounds.
The fun continued inside with the children painting their favourite birds, capturing the vibrant colours of blue tits, robins, and blackbirds, and moulded imaginary birds from playdough, showcasing their creativity. The children also explored birdseed as a sensory experience, played with small world wooden birds and were captivated by the Curiosity Cube, which displayed a real bird’s nest complete with eggs.
Our pupils loved every moment—and contributed to real scientific research in the process!
