The Bake Off Returns! - Hurstpierpoint College

This year marked the second year of the highly anticipated Bake Off, which returned with even more excitement and enthusiasm following the resounding success of last year’s event. The competition encouraged creativity, sustainability, and a shared love of baking, and it certainly delivered on all fronts.

Houses were invited to host their own ‘preliminaries’ to ensure the best bakers were ready to represent their teams. This year also saw the introduction of a brand-new category: the Banoffee Pie, which quickly became a fan favourite (and a personal highlight for Mrs Jacques who got to taste all the entries!). Additionally, there was a renewed focus on sustainability, with the introduction of the “Waste-Less Savoury Bake” category, challenging bakers to minimise waste in their creations.

The judging panel was stronger than ever, featuring professional chefs brought in by Sodexo, ensuring a fair and expert evaluation of the incredible entries. It was amazing to see so many pupils taking an active interest in cooking and baking, showcasing their skills and creativity in every category.

The event raised over £300 for charity, adding a meaningful purpose to all the fun and friendly competition. The coveted title of ‘Best in Show’ aka ‘Best House’ went to Chevron for their outstanding performance across all categories, highlighted by their show-stopping custard cream extravaganza.
