Solent Sail - Hurstpierpoint College

During Michaelmas Term, students were fortunate to set out on two yacht sailing trips, the first trip sailed from Portsmouth to the Hamble with four students (Joel B, Lucas H, Quinn L and Josh H) and the other sailed from the Hamble to Portsmouth with five pupils (Emma C, Patrick J, Rosie P, Matt L and James F).

The pupils tackled the rudiments of sailing a yacht, including basic navigation, ropework, helming, and working together as a crew. A highlight for both groups was a stop at Cowes, where they stretched their legs, explored the charming town, and discovered the number of canons at the Island Sailing Club near Egypt Point. Fuelled by Mrs Poole’s famous spaghetti bolognaise, the crew set off on the final leg of their journey each afternoon, sailing confidently across the Solent.
