Music-making opportunities for all

There is almost no end to the music-making possibilities at Hurst Prep, and many children have individual music tuition.

We have five choirs:

Senior Rock Choir
Junior Rock Choir
Junior Choir (Years 3 and 4)
Chamber Choir
Chapel Choir (Years 6 to 8)

Prep School Music We hope that all pupils will take the opportunity to sing in a choir during their time here.

There are a number of music groups for instrumentalists of all levels to join. These include an orchestra, jazz band, brass group, flute group, guitar group, string group and samba band. Our thriving school orchestra is open to all pupils of grade 1+ ability.

Pupils learning a musical instrument are encouraged to participate in these ensembles to further enrich their musical experiences. There are many opportunities for pupils to perform during the school year and all children are encouraged to participate. All pupils have the opportunity to perform in assembly and classes. Pupils who learn an individual instrument are invited to perform in termly informal concerts, and the ensemble groups take part in whole-school bi-annual concerts.

Instrumental lessons

Pupils are able to learn a wide range of musical instruments and about two-thirds of them take individual instrumental or singing lessons. Prep school music

The instruments taught are:

Strings: Cello, Double Bass, Guitar (acoustic and electric), Viola and Violin
Brass: Euphonium, French Horn, Trombone, Trumpet and Tuba
Woodwind: Bassoon, Clarinet, Flute, Oboe, Recorder and Saxophone
Percussion: Drum kit and other percussion
Keyboards: Electric keyboard, Organ, Piano and Jazz Piano
